A2
Two of a Kind –
a matter of supply and demand
The most influential steering factor in education is the basic question: Who do we want to be? Is this an individual question, and are our pupils allowed to find their own answers? Or is it a collective question and responsibility, and is it society that dictates the answers? Between these two poles – individual wishes and societal responsibility – education get their shape, content and meaning. In this presentation the balance between a question-based approach in education and a content-based approach will be explored. Of course the focus will be on Storyline, but even more beyond Storyline, to reflect on key-concepts like: responsiveness, responsibility, imagination, authenticity and continuity, and how meaningful education can be an interactive challenge for both teachers and pupils. Who is doing the job for whom?

'Beyond Storyline' is also the title of a book that will be published by SLO in Spring 2006. It is a collection of essays and a DVD on Storyline (and beyond Storyline), edited by Jos Letschert, Beate Grabbe-Letschert and Jan Greven.
