Application of Storyline in an Internet-Based Project Management Course

Markus Hällgren, PhD student & Tomas Blomquist PhD, Umeå School of Business, Sweden, give an introduction to their thoughts and research regarding the development of an Internet distance learning course that utilized the Storyline methodology to facilitate discussions and knowledge sharing. The course dealt with Project management and was given at Umeå University, Sweden.

The course has become increasingly popular and has been the most applied course at Umeå University for a number of years, arguably because of the high participation among students. This seminar will deal with some of the challenges and opportunities that faced the development and the setup over the years. Some results from research conducted on virtual teams will also be presented until finally presenting some thoughts on how Storyline could be brought to the Internet.

The image shows one example of the 20000 postings that was made during the part time, 20 weeks long course. Thanks to postings, students witnesses of a strong community where they came to share victories and defeats on the course and in real life, on the Internet without physical meetings.

This seminar will be fruitful for both academicians and practitioners as it highlights questions on both implementation and research.
