Session a)
Parents & Children
Writing Stories Together

The home-school writing project involves parents and children writing and publishing a story together at home. The design is loosely based on a Storyline approach. Evaluations by parents and children indicate that children value the initiative because it gives them freedom and time for writing. It helps them to learn about time management, about taking risks and about how to use conversational partners to improve the craft and process of writing. They also feel that it is an opportunity to impress their parents. Parents valued the initiative because it gives them important insights into the process of their child’s learning. They value the creativity of the approach and the confidence it develops, in addition to developing generic skills such as time management and organisation.
