Call for Papers

The Imaginative Education Research Group, at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada, is sponsoring an international conference on Imagination and Education. It will be held in Vancouver, B.C. at the Coast Plaza Hotel between 16th. and 19th. July 2003.

The keynote speaker will be Elliot W. Eisner, Professor of Education and Art, Stanford University. Currently featured presenters include Kieran Egan, Simon Fraser University; Cedric Cullingford, University of Huddersfield; Maria do Ceu Roldao, Polytechnic Institute of Santarem, Portugal; Clyde Coreil, Center for the Imagination in Language Learning, NJ; Miranda Armstrong, Victoria, Australia. Others will be added during the year-visit our web site for updated information (url below).

You are invited to submit proposals on any aspect of the connection between education and imagination. We are hospitable to the usual kinds of papers, panels, and workshops, but also invite you to submit proposals for other formats that you think might best allow you to display or demonstrate your ideas-roundtable sessions, informal presentations and discussions, posters, etc. We particularly welcome proposals from teachers and from educators of all kinds, including academics and researchers, of course.

Proposals should include a title, an abstract of approx. 250 words, and information about yourself, including your institutional affiliation , degrees, publications, and whatever else you think might be helpful for us to know. Please let us know whether, instead of, or in addition to, presenting, you might be interested in being a discussant or participating in the program in some other way. Paper sessions will be scheduled into 50 minute time slots, panels and workshops may be scheduled for up to 80 minute slots, though efforts will be made to accommodate longer sessions as required. Shorter sessions can also be accommodated, of course, and may be preferable for many forms of presentation or discussion. Please indicate your preferred format and time requirement.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, Jan. 10th 2003.
