The Storyline Method – A helpful strategy for the foreign language classroom
As in recent years the European Comenius grant enabled 11 German and Spanish English teachers to meet for a 10 day Storyline course in Glasgow. Run by the two storyliners Gisela Ehlers and Hannelore Tait from the Teacher Training Institute IQSH in Schleswig-Holstein Germany, the participants could try out a storyline for themselves. They experienced the joy of designing characters and incidents, tried out drama techniques, had to produce recordings and video clips and were astonished about the effort the learners have to make in producing the target language in all skills. The participants also discussed and found out about the many different possibilities a storyline offers for differentiation in heterogeneous learner groups and in how many ways assessment is possible.
